Caregiver training

Parent training is an integral part of our service model. We believe that caregivers’ knowledge of skills and strategies to help their child reach goals is imperative. We also understand that caregiver’s time is valuable and limited. Therefore, we offer parent training through different platforms to meet your needs.

One to One Client Enrollment Parent Training

Any family that is enrolled in the Early Intervention or On-to-One Focused services will have tailored parent goals in relation to their child’s services. A highly trained team made up of a BCBA and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) will work directly with caregivers to provide insight into their child’s programming and direct training to give parents the skills necessary to carry over the same strategies in the home environment.

In addition, when enrolled in the Early Intervention or One-to-One focused services, a Family Training Specialist will be part of you and your child’s team. You will meet regularly with this individual in order to communicate community or home concerns, review parent goal progress, review parent and child satisfaction, and receive direct training on a variety of skills.

Social Skill Group Parent Training

Peers Social Skills therapy has an important parent component that targets parents understanding and involvement with the same social skills being taught to your child. Depending on the format of your child’s social skills experience, the parent training could look a variety of different ways. At its core, the parent training will include parents getting handouts and/or verbal discussion of the skill their child is learning, direct coaching in relation to application of the skill in the home and community environment, and problem solving in relation to social skill concerns.

Community Training/Generalization

At the North Dakota Autism Center, we believe that support should be provided in the environment that is most relevant. Community training and generalization support consists of a skilled BCBA or Registered Behavior Technician meeting a caregiver and their child in the environment that is most critical to a skill set and providing caregivers with the information and training to help their child reach his/her goals in that environment.
